Ah. Japanese kimono… long story that is… I already told (in the Tea party dress project) that I’m a Nancy Pena’s fan and the ultimate piece for me to make was that kimono, the very emblematic piece of her comic book (the kimono’s cat). And of course, I had never made a kimono before! I always choose the simple way… Please tell me I’m not the only one!!! ^^
Well, the difficult part here was that I needed to print the fabric with the cat pattern… hum… It’s made of cotton sateen and based on a traditional kimono pattern… But my lack of experience made this kimono totally unperfect!!! :) However, I’m sure to improve on my second kimono attempt!!! :D
Organic cotton sateen.

This is amazing! You did great this being your first attempt.
I’ll share a tidbit of information from my friend that is an antique Kimono dealer and teaches classes. You always always cross the LEFT side OVER the right side. Having the right side over the left side means you are dead and ready for cremation.1 Reply

Haha! Well, thank you for that information, that’s useful for sure!!! Especially knowing that I often (maybe always!) cross my vests (kimono included) like men (meaning the right side over the left side!!!). :D So, thanks a lot for that!!! I’ll try to keep that in mind!

It is pretty kimono :-) I think that the combination of these colors is a Japan style. すてきな着物ですね。 色の組み合わせが日本的ですばらしいと思います。

Thank you, but for the print combinations, you’ll have to congrat Nancy Pena! ’cause this is based on her drawings from the comic. ^^
