New York, New Yo...
If you haven’t gotten your hands on our amazing new book yet— we hope this project encourages you to do so. This week, The Sew Weekly blogger and seamstress Mena Trott shares with us her version of the BurdaStyle Sewing Handbook’s skirt pattern.
In her words: I have a thing for tiered skirts. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that when I was in seventh grade they were all the rage and I had the most awesome three-level tiered skirt that I wore for picture day (complete with a black men’s-style vest). Up until that point in life, my mom picked out all my clothes but for some reason for that picture day I was able to choose exactly what I wanted to buy and wear. Hence, my love affair with the tiered skirt continues to this day.
Did you make any changes to the original pattern? The only alteration I made to the pattern was a lengthening of the skirt and overskirt. Following the instructions on the pattern and in the book, I lengthen the pieces by about three inches.
Did you style this look yourself? Yes— The shirt is the BurdaStyle stripe top pattern. The only thing that’s missing is an awesome vest.
