Description

This week another rockin’ seamstress shares her spin on our bag pattern from The BurdaStyle Sewing Handbook.

In Gussy’s words: I was so eager to sew this pattern because while my shop focuses on small & large tote bags, I’ve always dreamed of making purses. I simply haven’t pushed myself to add them to my shop… yet! I kept the styling of the BurdaStyle purse simple: I took away the tassel accent and changed the strap so it was much shorter in length, then widened it. I’m so happy with the end result — this purse is super roomy yet the elastic features (top of purse and 2 side pockets) help to keep it compact. New project are so fun!

Did you make any changes to the pattern? Yes. For the strap I cut a 25″ × 4.75″ piece from the self fabric (from Spoonflower) and pressed both long edges in about 1/4", then I folded the strap in half length-wise and pressed it once more. I also used 2 d-rings and added them to each strap loop {previously sewn onto the bag}, then I threaded the pressed strap through each d-ring and stitched over top of the strap so it was closed. Tip: make sure your strap is threaded through each d-ring evenly so it’s not twisted! Having a durable strap is important to me and I felt that by having 1 wider strap, instead of 2 skinny straps, would be more comfortable as well. The finished strap is 23″ × 1.5″

Super cute. I love the pattern and the colors of your fabric choice. I like this bag pattern and have been tempting to try. But I still have not yet make up my mind on the fabric. Nice job! :)
