The Bow Suit

Added Jun 25, 2010

by sherrys

Auckland, New Ze...

I drafted this pattern after seeing it in a magazine, and made a pencil skirt to match. The sleeve heads are slightly gathered, and the patch pockets also have gathers and a bow detail. The back skirt has a gathered peplum with a matching bow.
More info on my blog here, and here, including a tutorial on tailored sleeve vents. I may upload the pattern at some stage if enough people are interested.

Material Notes

100% wool herringbone
100% viscose lining

Garment Type
Business, Classic, Vintage
Suiting, Wool

Wooooow what a gorgeous suit, it suits you so well! Thank you so much for the inspiration :) I’ve been thinking about the wardrobe I will need when starting my career, and this is exactly in the style I imagine I would like to wear: formal with feminine details and nicely fitted. If you ever drop the pattern over here, I’ll be watching, but I already took note of your comments on tutorial on the sleeve and what you think about the fabric you used and about underlining. I hope you enjoy your beautiful creation :)

This is amazing. I can’t believe you drafted this jacket – I am so jealous. I’ve only got minimal drafting skills, this is something I aspire to someday.

Very impressive! The style of this suit is wonderful. The 3/4 length sleeves, the lapel, the pockets, the skirt – I couldn’t dream up a lovelier suit myself. It really has it all. I’d love to try my hand at it if you get the pattern up. Beautiful, beautiful craft. Thanks for sharing.
