Description

I needed a new dress for the Barrymore Awards, so I invested in bright pink taffeta, like you do. I actually had several color options, and I consulted every single person in Jack B. Fabrics here in Philadelphia before I settled on bubblegum pink. I feel like I made the right decision….

I love this dress! I’ll be honest, the instructions were practically useless, but by this point in my sewing I could pretty much figure it out, with a little help from my seam ripper, of course.

The bodice is lined, and you can see the lining peeking over the edges. I hate this aspect of it, but everyone at the awards ceremony/after party seemed to think it was intentional. Thanks, folks, all part of the act.

I hand picked the zipper, and I couldn’t figure out the skirt panels, so I just said, screw it. According to the instructions there should have been 4 panels, but I can’t even imagine how full the skirt would have been with two additional gathered panels…I mean, it’s supposed to be retro 1950’s, not Elizabethan, right?

So much more on my blog!

Material Notes

Taffeta, synthetic lining (who knows what…), plastic zipper. All artificial, which I hate, but what can you do?
