A dress constructed for a Sew Weekly challenge, “Pretty as a Picture.” The idea was to use a piece of art as inspiration. I used Andy Warhol’s Marilyn screen pints as inspiration. The fabric pretty much drove my choice of artist (doesn’t hurt that I kinda love Warhol anyways). The fabric reminded me of the multi-colored prints and the way they’re kind of off-kilter just a bit. I attempted to channel Marilyn Monroe in pattern choice… I don’t know how well that worked out.
I used Simlicity 2248 and a cotton fabric that was gifted to me. I made the usual FBA adjustment (so easy on princess seams!) which meant I had to, for this pattern, adjust the waist just a tiny bit. I omitted the zipper for now. Used my blind hem foot on my sewing machine for the first time!

What a great fabric and a beautiful dress. I think you’re very brave daring to wear such bold colors and beautiful prints. I adore those fabrics, but I’m afraid wearing them myself.

Truth? I’m very much so a black and grey kinda girl. Though I do love to spice it up with a (very, very, very, VERY) small dash of color! This is definitely… colorful.
