This is Butterick 5814, designed by Gertie (AKA Gretchen Hirsch). I cut a size 14 and made it up in a poly satin with a poly pongee lining/underlining. If you make this dress, use a much drapier fabric than I did! Something along the lines of crepe de chine, charmeuse, etc. I used plain old plastic boning and achieved my prettiest invisible zipper installation to date!
I didn’t decide to make this dress until a week and a half before my 2 year dating anniversary dinner with my boyfriend…and once I did it took me a week to get the fit approximately right. I cut, and almost sewed up the whole thing in 3 days (lots of lining, boning, etc) but couldn’t quite get it finished in time, so I wore another dress. And then…he proposed that night! Sure wish I had gotten it done.
