Battle Creek, Un...
This is Butterick 5497, with a visual reminder of how the properties of a fabric vastly affect the outcome of a project. Using a slinky rayon knit, I originally made this sweater in the size I measured according to the finished measurements on the pattern. It was HUGE! I had to start over and recut it 3 sizes smaller. It fits great now.
The pattern has you make these channels in the shoulder with the seam allowance to insert elastic for the rouching. I tried that once on a short sleeved version and it’s really uncomforatble to have them constantly sliding off the shoulder. On this top, I just serged in some clear elastic and like it much better. Next time, I think I would extend the rouching all the way down the long sleeve. I’m not a fan of long sleeves, they get in the way, and this fabric doesn’t have good recovery.
