My first skirt, a classic A-line (Burdastyle Sidonie #8281) made from an old curtain I bought second hand. I made it a little bit easy for myself and dropped the lining and am wearing it with an underskirt instead.
Question: in the pattern the front and back skirt pieces were supposed to be placed almost diagonal to the grainline; how do you do it if you have an upright print like this?

I really love your skirt, simple design with great vintage fabric! And I love how you styled your look! ps. where did you get your adorable necklace?

Thank you so much!
I bought the necklace off of a girl selling on the street in Finland. She had a website too, where you can find it but it’s all in finish! But maybe you know someone who knows someone? :)

This looks fabulous – I really love the outfit you’ve put together.
I’m no expert, but sewing – to me at any rate – is about creativity. If you think a pattern is going to look best if you cut the fabric a certain way, then do it that way. It looks fabulous in this case so trust your instincts!

That sounds like a creative and inspiring take on it! And you’re right, it worked this time, why not again?
Thank you!

Thats a very nice skirt, I love that you made it from a curtain, I made my last dress from one too, as for the pattern, I would stay with the grainline and let the pattern go where it goes jj:)x

Thank you!
This time I cut it so that the print would be right so we’ll see what happens. I guess it is because the fabric can get twisted or start to pull a little when you wash it?
I’m new to sewing clothing so I’m still waiting for the mistakes to reveal themselves!

I have been sewing for years and still make mistakes, so dont worry as they do teach you many things, but the drape of the fabric is the thing to go by, well to my way of thinking anyway, enjoy your sewing and put what ever you make on show for the world to see jj:)x
