I never knew it, but before my dad, my mom was proposed to. Unfortunately, she was young and wasn’t ready to be a mother to his young child, and they rapidly fell apart. He found and contacted her 30 years later, and confessed his undying love. Mom was completely distraught, being in a 3 year relationship herself. She took a huge risk, and dropped everything to go visit him before he was shipped overseas. And today, after a lifetime of waiting, was their wedding day :)
The first thing I asked was “Can I make your wedding dress?!” Having never made a garment for someone else before, I knew it would be a challenge, but I was excited. They had a very small, casual outside ceremony, so she just wanted a sundress. I realized what I got myself into when I took her measurements, and went to look for patterns. Her proportions are pretty drastic, and her chest measurement wouldn’t cover the pattern she wanted. So, I kind of had to fudge the bodice pattern for it to fit her correctly… which I’ve never done before, and had no idea if it would work. Anyway, longstory short, after much adjustment and stress, it worked! And then, right in the middle, my dog ran into my machine cord, and pulled it off of the table, and broke it. So, although the outside looks decent, the inside looks like hell! :( She was happy nonetheless.
