I wanted new pants for dance class because I have an addiction to stretchy fitness wear apparently. I made the pattern from a pair of favorite wide-legged cropped pants and cruised through the construction. I failed to account for the fact that the crushed stretch velvet is nowhere near as stretchy as the cotton jersey the original pants are made from. They do not fit my booty :P So, lesson learned. I have a pair of lovely pants that don’t fit me and inadvertently a size ‘small/medium’ pattern. I’ll be revising the pattern over the next few days to attempt to make a pair that do fit so that I can still support my “habit”.
stretch crushed velvet doesn’t “walk” as badly as uncrushed velvet (stretch or non). But if you have troubles, try a “walking foot”. And if that doesn’t work, try a stabilizer that dissolves or tears away.
