Description
I tried out the Danielle pattern a couple of years back, but I made it too small. A wedding invitation and lack of something to wear made me decide to give it another whirl, but in the next size up! I lined the bodice rather than making facings. Regarding the outcome: I like the fit this time, but perhaps the style and my choice of (very cheap curtaining) fabric makes it look a little like a little girl’s bridemaid’s dress! I plan to combat this with the addition of funky fuscia tights and amazing silver shoes. Just so you know.

Material Notes
Incredibly wide curtaining fabric. Matching lining

This version has one of the nicest cuts of all the projects! It looks so clean and sharp. When you say you lined the bodice, do you mean you just cut the bodice pattern pieces out of lining fabric, assembled them like the outer bodice and then sewed them together?

Thanks very much! I think that this dress would be a good first attempt at dress making. To make it even easier, I would suggest making it sleeveless and binding the armholes instead. Good luck!

Many thanks! Unfortunately I didn’t get any photos of me at the wedding where you can see the full outfit, you’ll just have to trust me that it rocked! Good luck making the Danielle. BTW, I raised the neckline about 1.5cms as the first version I made showed the top of my bra. Happy sewing!

I love the fit and you did a great job! It doesn’t look like a child’s dress at all. Very sophisticated and feminine.

Beautiful! The fabric doesn’t look cheap at all! It looks really well made and incredibly fitted this time. You have just inspired me to give the pattern a go. I like the sound of fully lining the bodice too, I hope I do it as well as you clearly have.

Many thanks Re3ecca! I forgot to say that I also raised the neckline by about 1.5cms, as the top of my bra poked out the top of my first version of the Danielle dress. Good luck!

I love it! I’m all for simple colours and shapes jazzed up with accessories. But even without them, I absolutely love the colour and the fit.
