Description

I’ve been planning to put my scraps to good use for some time so when I saw the recycle mini-challenge I thought this would be the perfect opportunity.
I started by sorting my scraps into piles of colour and chose to work with the grey pile, I then started sorting out which scraps would be for which pattern piece. Some scraps were big enough to cut out a whole pattern piece and others I had to sew together to make a piece big enough, I think these extra seams work well with the patchwork nature of the top.
I made a toile (also out of scraps from my green pile) and from this decided on some changes to the pattern for the final garment: I have taken in the sides to make the top a bit more fitted and bound the hem with binding tape. I also found the neckline a little too deep so I have added a zip all the way round the neckline which can be done up a little at the bust, the zip teeth also add a nice feature around the rest of the neckline. Although the finished result is a bit higgledy-piggeldy I think this mix n’match look works well and I enjoyed the challenge of it. I am definitely going to be using my scraps in this way again, In fact I now have 3 recycled scrap Taras ( In Yellow, Green and Grey) and still have plenty of scraps left over. Scrap On!!

Your tara looks great – I’m busy with a Tara dress now, I really like your zip idea because on me it’s also a little revealing!
