I decided that I needed a raincoat, so obviously decided to make one! I liked the Talea coat pattern so decided to try making it into a raincoat. I also added a lining to make it warmer and fun.
Waterproof breathable fabric. orange bird lining

Maybe the size-trouble is due to the fact that the pattern has seam allowance included. If you add extra allowance, the result would be too big a coat?

I cut out a size 42 which ended up so big it swamped me :( I was so upset. as you know the amount of time it takes to stick the pattern together, cut it out and then sew it you can probably appreciate this. Thanks for your help.I’ve decided to give up going by the measurements. I might just try and make it in a 38 and hope for the best. if it’s too small a friend can have it :) Did you find it true to size? did your measurements fit to the sizing?

I can fully appreciate how irritating and disappointing that must have been. It takes ages to stick the damn thing together!! I made 38 and its still a little roomy as I can get a jumper (sweater) on with it underneath. I didnt really measure myself.. I just thought I’m roughly a 38, I’ll do 38! Luckily it worked :-)

Your coat looksgreat. I hope that it ended up water proof. I’ve tried making one but something went wrong. It turned out well but like 4 sizes too big. What size are you (if you don’t mind me asking) and what size pattern did you use? I measured myself and all but the whole thing just swamped me. I’m am a NZ/UK 10-12 which is US 8-10 German 38. i would love to make it again but don’t want to waste nice fabric and have it not fit.

Thanks :-) Yes it is very waterproof – mission accomplished. I am UK 10 so I cut this out in a 38 I think. What size did you cut? I’ll double check on my pattern when I get home but I’m pretty sure I used a 38. I also lined it with pretty thick material which would make it more snug. (and warm) I know what you mean about not wanting to waste fabric – its always so disappointing when something doesnt turn out quite right.

Hi. The Talea pattern is without lining so this would work perfectly. I just decided to add lining as its cold here and I wanted to be warm and dry! :-)
Let us know how you get on!

It’s so hard to find a nice, warm raincoat. Sometimes you just have to do it yourself. And this one looks great!

I know. They’re all that horrible plastic sweaty material. If you want something done – do it yourself. Thats my moto.

Pictures weren’t too great for this one as it was starting to get dark but it was fun.
