Working away on a variation of a Burda pattern using a Liberty fabric, I was amazed to suddenly see a collection of liberty-fabric-based-burda-varitaions appear as a collection. There’s that synchronicity again!
And with my thunder stolen and studies to attend to… this one took a back seat. As fall approaches here in Australia (we call it Autumn), it was time to finish it.
Presenting my first button down shirt in its prairie-new-romantic best.
Variations (or liberties taken):
– inserted frill inside collar (as a young girl, I admired this detail on one of my mother’s blouses)
– added length to sleeves
– added cuffs
– added a tiny little cap detail to the top of each sleeve (see the last photo). It repeats the curve of the yoke
Notes for making this burda pattern,
1) cut interfacing for the button placket and collar – it wasn’t immediately apparent to me from the pattern/instructions (until it was too late!).
2) “long sleeve” in name only, I found they came up a little short (even after I added length to them) – so hold the paper pattern up to your arm to be sure before you cut.

This looks soooo much better than the orange version in the mag. Well done!

I love this. Firstly, I’ve always been a sucker for liberty prints, but what I think I like most is the shaped yoke, it’s great. And technically looks great too.

This is lovely. Really lovely. It all just works, and your “liberties” totally improve the pattern.

This blouse is adorable! I love all of the little details that you added, especially the frill at the neck and the cap detail at the top of the sleeves. The style of the blouse as well as the print remind me of the 1970s!

Beautiful details – my favourite is the frill in the collar, but the whole blouse on the whole is very pretty!

Really very lovely. What an amazing fabric! I admire Liberty of London from afar, it’s too expensive for me!
