This was one of the formal dresses that I made. I designed the dress myself. But never making formal dresses again! :)

Very pretty! Did you use an even-feed foot for the velvet? I’ve made 2 all-velvet formals, and that helps tremendously.

No, to be honest with you, I should have read the instructions on how to sew velvet! I had a lot of trouble with it however it came together ok in the end :) I guess thats 1 reason why I can’t get along with velvet!

The dress is a stunner! I really love the design, but what makes it a real “WOW” is your (or the girl’s) choice of fabrics!!! I love that lace, the way you used it, leaving out that long streak of red and having the rest of the bright red “subdued” by the black. It’s awesome!!!

Thank you everyone! Yes it is black and red. The girl who I made it for was very adamant that she was going to have red and black much to the dismay of her mum and me but I think the lace made the red less dramatic and I agree nenasew – romantic :). The one thing I never could love about the dress was the velvet, that stuff freaks me out! All in all, a long process but satisfying nonetheless :)

You did a lovely, lovely job on this Darl! All those button loops! I can’t blame you for thinking you never want to make a formal dress again – but you’ll come around I am sure!!! Just stunning! It is GREY and red isn’t it? That is what it looks like – because I agree with nenasew – some times black and red looks garrish – but your dress looks soft and romantic.

I love it. It looks gorgeous on you. I think the red and black can be tricky because it can be garrish but I love your red and black. It looks romantic.
