Description

this is a pattern from burdastyle german issue nr 2 from 2011. the jacket is on page 57 pattern nr 126. ít took me, what felt an iternety to finish this project, as it had a lot of details, i have never made before. the pockets, the collarsolution and not to forget the details on the sleeves.

for the material, i used a blend of wool and cotton in a light beige and light brown herringbone and i found really lovely vintage buttons to go with it. as my client has been quite experimental (thank you bernhardine for trusting me :-) we took a dark violet silk lining and i loved, what came out of the hours and hours of work!

i learned so much with this project and know now, that i should not be afraid of any difficult details. next thing on the agenda are two pencil skirts for this jacket. one in the same material and one in a contrasting dark beige! stay tuned :-)

Material Notes

wool-cotton mix in light beige and light brown herringbone
lining in dark violet silk
vintag buttons, maching threat, shoulderpads, interfacing and a LOT of patience :-)

Just awe-inspiring! This is so beautiful – I love the subtle way you played with the herringbone pattern on the flap pocket! I think those details make a garment really special.

Love the soft look and drape of this fabric. Looking at the close up details it’s apparent that you invested a lot of time into aligning the design in the herringbone, not an easy task. The breast pocket is impeccable and the purple lining is a brilliant choice for a beautiful contrast. Glad you’re telling yourself not to fear projects that present difficulties because you’ve demonstrated you have the talent to overcome them. I like to think of first time projects as pancakes – the first one might not look absolutely perfect, but the ones that follow will be!

Ralf again you amaze me with your wonderful works of art!!!! And I also am glad this showed on my activity page since Burda seems to be “hiding” peoples projects again. What a lucky lady to have such a wonderful jacket and I can’t wait to see the pencil skirts you make to go with it. I know you are enjoying your other new machine and I am sure we will be seeing more GREAT creations from your creative mind and hands. Happy Sewing Ralf!!!!

I’m so glad you are my friend and this has appeared on my activity page, otherwise it would have disappeared to the depths of the ‘Burdastyle Triangle’ with all our other projects! As always… a beautiful job. Ralf, You take top prize for making the lines of the herringbone on the pocket flap line up with the front jacket panel. You are perfectionist personified! x
