My first Laurel. Of many more to come, I hope – I want to see how many different ways I can play with just one pattern. I decided to play around with tabs and fabric covered buttons for my first version because I do love how functional they look although mine are decorative only. The tabs are actually the Colette Parfait straps, but I just made them narrower and much shorter. I also made bias tape from the wrong side of my fabric for a slight contrast.
The pockets are too small for my hands but are perfect for stashing my favorite Beninese snack: klouie klouie! Essentially strips of fried corn flour (sometimes peanut butter too added with ginger and pepper!). Yum yum.
I used an ikat print fabric with gold glitter. I hope it doesn’t all wash off eventually… guess I’ll just have to be careful.
I wrote more in my sewing blog here: http://cathywu.com/journal/treadling/2013/04/04/tabbed-turquoise-colette-laurel-klouie-klouie/
