Description

so, this is my first time making a bathing suit, and I love how it came out!! I must say though, that there was much trial and error during the process. I started out making it with one printed fabric and using the Alison pattern, but the pattern was all wonky so I created my own. Here is a link to my blog that describes more about my final product and the changes I made. http://stitchafterstitch88.blogspot.com/2012/01/swimmin-in-teal.html I will def have to make more, esp so I can perfect my pattern.

thanks!! yes, I did raise the back of the suit. I actually created a panel that connects with the bust section on the sides. I’ll try and remember to get a pic showing what I did.

This is excellent :-) You seem to have solved a couple of problems I had with the first Alison swimsuit I made. I’m just about to read your blog to find out more about how you did it.

Great swimsuit; it looks good on. What kind of problems did you have? Did you use an overlocker or your sewing machine and how did you go stretching the elastic evenly That is always the difficult stage that I have found when sewing a swimsuit. I would love to know how you went.

no, I didn’t use an overlocker. for the gem on the front panel I just did a straight stitch and stretched it a little ad I went along. I did the same thing for all my other seams, just a straight stitch. I currently don’t have elastic anywhere in the suit, but I think I am going to add a piece, or two, under the bust to make sure everything stays where it’s supposed to.

Thanks for your reply and you have now given me courage to try swim suit sewing again.

Great job! It looks wonderful. I haven’t ventured into anything remotely fitted yet for fear of a total flop. :)

thanks!! I say just dive right in and give it a shot!! just use inexpensive fabric the first time while you figure everything out. the first one I worked on before this one, I used a printed fabric that I love and the pattern didn’t turn out right at all, so now I have to go back and redesign so I can use the awesome fabric. I had never sewn anything like a bathing suit, or fitted, either before this, so don’t count yourself out just yet :)
