Sweetheart Danielle

Portland, Maine,...

I made this dress right after buying a new sewing machine. I used fabric that I had found at a yard sale and made a dress from burdastyle’s danielle pattern. My machine has decorative stitches, so I added a little heart detail at the top.
Whenever I wear this dress, strangers keep telling me how much they like it. My banker even told me that she would buy my dresses if I decided to sell them. This sewing thing has been a lot of fun!

Material Notes

cotton fabric, decorative stitch

Fantastic. I’ve been inspired to have a go at making Danielle from seeing your version with this funky fabric and you used cotton not the velvet they recommend. I was wondering how it would look in a funky cotton fabric It’s my kinda dress well done and thanks for posting a picture!

Love the dress- gorgeous plaid. I’m always afraid to pick up the plaid due to matching the stripes.

Lovely- and great detail on the sleeve!

i didn’t think about how hard it would be till i started placing out the pattern. it wasn’t as difficult as i thought though. it just took a little more time. lots of patterns have straight line on them and this made it easier to line up.

You’re right! Danielle gets you some great compliments! When I wear my danielles, everybody simply loves the pattern and wants one as well. I never liked the sleeves, but in checkered fabric the sleeves look so sweet! Must-make-more-danielles

i think the sleeves work with this checkered pattern because it has masculine colors (well, they are masculine to me anyway). i think this balances out the girliness of the cut.

my sewing machine before was so old that a simple stitch always skipped. i could not make anything that had a visible seam. now, i feel like i could do anything.
