Description
I normally tend to use fabrics with black and white prints, which is why this red fabric (Robert Kaufman “Carnaby Street” light weight cotton) was in my stash for more than 2 years. But because I literally cannot fit any more fabric in my dedicated cabinet I decided it was time to use some of it. As I live in Perth (Australia) I figured a nice summer dress would be great. This is the result. I drafted the sleeves and skirt myself and the pattern for the top was taken from Butterick pattern no. 5486 (a pattern for a maxi dress). It is far from perfect, as I had to tweak many things to improve the fit, but I am still quite happy with the result.
Material Notes
Light weight cotton.

This is a ripper of a red dress. I was hoping it was a singular pattern so I could rip it off (imitation is the highest form of flattery you know), but I might have to try your sleeves for myself. Looking great and I’m sure with fabulous Perth weather you’ll get plenty of chances to sport it :)

Haha thanks! You could still use the maxidress pattern for the whole dress. I just choose to draft a different skirt, as the skirt part in the pattern has too much volume, making my hips look even bigger. I followed the instructions of that Butterick pattern mostly, I just added some sleeves to the straps. Pretty simple!
