Description

Burda Style 1st. sew along

Pattern- Susan
I like this design very much but I don’t have nicer fabric in my stash so I added a little more details which are pintucks and piping. I plan to make this blouse again in the future with the nicer fabric and will alter the neck line depth, right now it is too low for me and somehow it is a gaping when I wear it but it fits smoothly on the dress form though.

Material Notes

Fabric – cotton in dark navy

Well, I think your fabric looks lovely in the photographs… and I’m so envious of all the pintucking! I guess I better get some practice in.

Nice work JJ. I am so impressed that you went even further with this already time consuming pattern to add pintucks and piping! You must be an awesome seamstress.

Craftybernie, Thanks you. By the way, it gapes around the shoulder lines…they sort of raise up.

I think this is a beautiful top – both the colour and fabric look fine too. The pintucks, ruffles and piping are especially nice. Great job!

Where does it gape when you wear it?

Thanks a lot for the compliments. Lilo, I like all the ruffles, pintucks, and piping. It’s great that these type of details is updated. I’ve seen everywhere.

Elainemay, I do the first method that you mentioned. I cut the fabric bigger than the piece of the pattern (guess work) and pleat them 1/2" far apart (eyeball/guess again) but you must work on grainline, and keep it that way all the time, otherwise it won’t come out good. -—It is better to press/iron while sewing the bigger pleats too but with the tiny pin tucks like this, you can get away with it.

another great job! what’s your method for adding pin tucks? do you pleat a whole piece of fabric and then cut the piece out from the pleated fabric? or do you alter the pattern?

Great! You like pintucks, don’t you? Good idea, sometimes it’s difficult to find 2 fabrics that match; I also like Susan, maybe I’ll try it in your version some day. By the way, nothing wrong with the fabric you used, I like it, it fits great.

GORGEOUS! I think that fabric looks lovely. I love cobalt blue. Nice choice with the buttons too.
