Description

Holidays take many forms – skiing, sunshine or in my case sewing. This is the result of my sewing holiday during October in Leicestershire, England where I spent an enjoyable 5 days with Michelle Pye at her English Couture Company http://englishcouture.co.uk/courses/
when I made this traditional coat based on Burda 02/2010 3 button coat.
Altogether there are around 35 hours work in the coat and this includes much hand work including sewing the hems and attaching the lining to the coat. The benefit of a Burda pattern is that you start off with a pretty good fit. Therefore, I just adjusted to shorten length and make the body of the coat a little neater. Using a Burda pattern gave me the confidence to do this without making a toile, which although fine for this style, probably wouldn’t be recommended!
The coat itself is straightforward in that this is a routine, lined coat with the option of placing pockets and adding more detail such as the interior pocket and the piping on the lining.
This is a grand coat, which I love for the shape, style and colour. But boy is this angora mix irritating my skin! Happy Halloween everyone!

Material Notes

Angora wool with a pile.

Very picturesque and well-styled! The proportions are great and the work is nice. The coat suits you a lot and I’m sure you attract much atention in it.

Oh Wow! Great coat, you did an awesome job… I can’t wear any wool unless it’s a very low percentage and is lined (itchy all over), but it’s the best fabric to use :-(
