Burda Style For people who sew

The Supermassive Black Hole that is my fabric stash was not going to get the chance to swallow up this gorgeous Liberty print silk I bought a week ago. I decided to wash, cut and sew it as soon as possible so there was no chance of it doing a disappearing act on me! I had fallen in love with it at my local fabric store, so carried off 1.5m, without being quite sure which pattern I was going to use. I ended up using Burdastyle 08/2011, no 138 – again!! I have 4 of these now, and I love them, especially in silk. The pattern just lends itself really well to the drape that silk has, and the sleeves are yummy! Also, it’s quick to run up!
I have used french seams throughout, and stabilised the cuffs and neckline with some of Gill Arnold’s fine sheer fusible interfacing. There is supposed to be a bias bound opening on the back, but I have never had the need to actually open the buttons and use that opening. So with this top I left that bit out, still put the button on the back though, because I found the cutest black and white spotty ones that are pretty invisible..

I have to be honest, if I hadn’t had the right buttons already I would just have cut the back neckline bit on the fold and have done with it.
