My boyfriend’s mom, knowing that I sew, lovingly offered to give me some of her old fabrics. Going through the box, I couldn’t find much that caught my fancy until I saw this bright yellow pillow case. It was, well… not me.
But I fell in love with it and took it home and thought and thought about what I would make out of it. Lo and behold, this shirt was born! I drafted (and then re-drafted… there’s not much fabric in a single pillow case) the pattern myself. This is the first time I shirred fabric. Pretty happy with the results. (I learned the hard way that I have to pay special attention to my butter fingers when winding the bobbin with elastic thread!)
One old pillow case. (Washed to get the dust out!)

Thanks. It took a bit of reworking the pattern to get it all to fit on the single pillowcase. It would have been nice to have a bit more fabric!

I love the results of elastic thread but hate working with it! I always get all romantic about making something with it, then as soon as I start sewing, I start swearing at myself for falling into that trap again! I am amazed you were able to get that done with ONE pillowcase- amazing. Very cute shirt- I love it!
