I’ve been admiring all of the gorgeous peplum tops that are everywhere these days, and finally made one for myself using a pattern from BurdaStyle August 2012. I made the matching skirt as well, as I just barely had enough fabric. I changed the crew neck to a V-neck out of necessity — I accidentally cut the front piece without checking where the fabric pattern would be, so I ended up with a big white swath right down CF. It was unsightly, so I tried to diminish it with a V neck. I also shortened the peplum because I am petite and I wanted to add a contrast band to the hem.
The pattern is well drafted, but I’m not crazy about it, which is why I photographed it on the dress form rather than on me. The colors aren’t the best for me (what possessed me to buy this fabric when I never wear brown and orange?!?!) and there is something about the style that isn’t really flattering. I think it could be the band on the peplum, or perhaps the combo of the V-neck and the peplum. Maybe I should have made a deep U-neck to play off of the rounded curves of the peplum? Not sure…

It’s a great dress nonetheless and the fabric is very pretty.

Thank you! I fell in love with the fabric when I saw it — the mix of colors and the circular design woven into the fabric.
