I found a pattern for a dress on Heather Ross’ blog. (She’s a fabric designer.) I didn’t look too difficult, so I figured it would make a good first dress attempt. Though not perfect, I think it came out pretty well, especially for my first try! The pattern was fairly simple and quick, except for all of the shirring involved to gather the bust. I think I sewed about 25 rows using elastic thread!
Here’s the website for the pattern if you’d like to try! http://heatherross.squarespace.com/journal/2008/8/5/free-dress-pattern-download-for-mendocino-fabrics.html

I downloaded this dress ages ago too but haven’t had a chance to try it since it is winter now but I love the print of the fabric you choose, it’s so bold and really suits the simple style of the dress. I’ve never tried shirring before but you’ve inspired me to give it a go :)
