Description

I’ve never made a jumpsuit before and this shorts version of Burdastyle’s 5/13 issue, pattern # 129A was a perfect novice project. It was easy enough but I struggled a bit with figuring how to close the front portion below the waist. I sewed the front closure below the waist high enough so I can still squeeze into it without ripping anything apart. The top part is like sewing a top half of a wrap dress so no buttons were needed. I cut a size 17 and it fits nicely.

I believe I will make another one just like this just because it was fun to make and fun to wear.

I’ve tried to find this pattern in the Burda pattern store but the closest I could find was the 2/2013 #124 pattern which looks very similar to the pattern I used.

Material Notes

1.5 yards of cotton, 1/2 yard of muslin to line the shorts portion, thread

I have to add, that the sizing said it was for petite, but that didn’t seem to change anything with the sizing. I did add 1/2 an inch to the bottom edge of the top and top edge of the bottom. When I bought the pattern, I didn’t notice it said petite until I had already downloaded it, so I compared the sizing on the petite and reg. womens to get the right size for me.

I made this jumpsuit as well. I made it out of an earth tones striped cotton. I put a cream colored 1/2 inch flat lace trim on the neck edge and on the sleeves. I found the bottom(shorts) portion of the pattern to be just the right fit, but the top front portion was way off! I had to do a lot of altering. I also didn’t like how the sleeves fit. They were to wide. I would use a different sleeve from another pattern if I make it again. I am actually wanting to redo the sleeves, using a sleeve pattern from a different pattern. I have to say, it did come out nice, and I do want to make the long pants version as well. I made a size 10 for the top portion and a size 6 for the bottom. In standard pattern sizes (Vogue) I usually wear a size 12/14 dress size, and 10 pants size. Yours came out very nice, and it looks great on you. Have you made any of the other patterns from Burda? This jumpsuit is my first attempt at using a Burda magazine downloadable pattern.

Oh yeah! I love Burdastyle. I have a subscription to the magazine and I use at least one or two patterns from each issue. My experience with this pattern was a good one but I found another pattern from another issue which I actually felt was better. I have yet to post it, but you can’t miss it. It’s similar to this one. Thanks for checking this out. Did you try the free downloadable Burda patterns like the Danielle dress? That’s a favorite of mine too.

Thanks Mary! The only problem with the white is that you have to line it or else your undies will show.
