I made these shorts last Sat. while my husband was looking after our daughter.
I used Burdastyle-Ruby as a base pattern, but instead of using buttons on the side for closure, I just used a zipper fly in the front.
It was my very first time making shorts/pants,
so it was a bit challenging, especially trying to figure out how to insert a zipper fly.
I used a sewing book for a reference.
I also made the belt to tie a bow on the waist. You can place the bow anywhere you like – front, side or back!
and, yes, those white things you see in the first photo are my daughter’s cloth diapers :P
linen, cotton, button, zipper

I’m currently making my first pair of shorts and I am so confused by the fly! It doesn’t help that it’s a hot day and I need to finish these either today or tomorrow! Could you offer any help or what sewing book you used as a refference?

Hi, sorry for the late reply…
I just used my basic sewing encyclopedia that I have as a reference. and just googled on zipper fly how-to, and this one seems a good step by step(with pic) instruction.http://www.wikihow.com/Sew-a-Fly-Zipper
and I am sure there are tons of Youtube(or whatever) clips online!
hope this helps!(or maybe you’re already done with your shorts??) good luck!! look forward to seeing them here once you are done!

Awesome shorts! I can’t believe this is your first time to make shorts/pants! They really look store bought! That’s a big compliment!Haha I could see the JJill store selling these! I love that you added a sash too! Nicely done!
