We are expecting our baby girl in 5 weeks’ time. I adapted Burda’s June 2010 maxi dress pattern for a mother/baby dress set. This pattern is brilliant – versatile, elegant and comfortable at the same time.
For the mother dress I wanted the back to be the visual focus with the full lace panel (my bump already gets enough attention!). I adjusted the back pattern to fit the lace panel and also eliminated the back darts to accommodate my non-existent waist line ;-) The front tucks on the original pattern are perfectly placed for a maternity dress and grows with my belly. It not only works as a maternity dress but also looks great afterwards as a regular summer dress.
For the baby dress I adapted the Sophia baby outfit pattern to the same style as the maxi dress by adding the round neckline and front tucks. For a finishing touch both the mother and baby dresses have the same tiny lace trim in the front.
I love how both outfits turned out. I can’t wait to wear them together with my baby girl next summer!
