Description

This is BurdaStyle’s “it” blouse for the summer. You can wear it with flowing linen trousers like Alden, or maybe with a high-waist skirt like this one we shot in the Spring. Regardless, this pattern is the perfect platform for a great polka-dot print or floral silk.

Pattern Alteration Notes:
For Alden’s blouse, we used size 44 of the Alexander blouse pattern and elongated the center front seams by 1" each (she wears a 46/48 in BurdaStyle sizing). We added a 2" wide center front placket to ensure there was coverage in the bust— no bra peeking through here because we also inserted invisible snaps. We did the same for the back. After hearing the feedback from our users we made this top better by dropping the waistline by 2" and we doubled the length of the peplum, so it would hit the hips in a flattering way. And doesn’t she shine?

Material Notes

Red and white polka dot silk, B&J Fabrics, NYC. Sizes 32-44: 1 3/4 yards (1.5 meters) self, 90 x 50cm, interfacing, 13 buttons

Really really beautiful. Alden, you look stunning as always. The blouse is one of my favourites on the site, I’ll have to make it up soon. I love both versions. Great job BS.

Nice blouse but needs a hook and eye at neck line to prevent seam gaping.

I agree that adding length to the original is an improvement. I am inspired to make another version now ( I still love the original), with some extra length on the sleeves too ( I am in love with 1970s floaty sleeves at the moment.)

Gorgeous. Alden, the blouse, both are just gorgeous. I love the lengthened peplum and dropped waist. Nice job!

I am with you all. This is a great idea that we Can do. Because I am old with yucky arms and flat rear end (make that sagging), I will make this with 3/4 sleeves that are not quite so full and probably lenghthen the bottom a little more.

Really super. Thanks and by the way your model is beautiful shows offf the blouse perfectly.

Beautiful! A question…about lowering the waist two inches, I can’t tell if you made that an alteration while making this particular blouse or whether you altered the actual pattern to be sold with a 2 inch lower waist. I’m assuming that it was an alteration of the pattern for this particular blouse, but somehow the wording confuses me. Thanks! I’ve been hesitant about the “for purchase” patterns but this one is reaaaaallly tempting me. I’d love to look that effortless!

(Especially great since I’m the exact same size that Alden wears, I love seeing her as the model because it is very relevant to me)

I really like this a lot – polka dots rule, and the blouse looks great.

OK, just looked at the old version – you all have REALLY made some awesome improvements to this blouse. Great job on that – I do love the dots, but I am now in love with the sleeves and the front neckline. I may have to try this one myself – though I’ve never sewn with silk before.

    And Alden looks amazing.

Muchos gracias for the alteration notes! I have a silk that is the reverse of this, which I picked up specifically for the Alexander. I haven’t cut into it yet, knowing I’d have to make quite a few adjustments for a flattering fit on my body.

Alden, it suits you a lot better than the girl with the tattood arms.

Very cute! I don’t really get the size, is that really 46? This blouse must have a slimming effect or my understanding of sizes is incorrect. Anyway, Alden, you look great.

I also think that the buttons down the back look uncomfortable. This blouse certainly is timeless, it reminds me of 1940s vintage blouses. Lovely!

It is absolutely beautiful, but I would think shank buttons down the back would be painful.
