Used BurdaStyle’s free pattern, Twisted Skirt 06/2012. This is the first wearable item I have made completely independently (with only 7th & 8th grade Home Ec training).
As a beginner, the main challenges (and learning)! I got from this experience —
- The waistband was particularly challenging as I needed to gather 2 layers of fabric, and keep all the stitching hidden by a 3/8" bias binding. It left me with a compromise of using only 1 row of gathering stitches in the lining.
- Slip stitching the lining to the zipper tapes.
- Realizing that broderie anglaise was more fiddly than anticipated and keeping it out of my feed dogs.
