I just spent the weekend trying to find a wide brimmed hat with no luck. I am soooo glad you posted this project! Can’t wait to make several! :)

Brilliant guys thank you!!!…I have the worlds smallest head which means kids hats for me usually…all desirable fashion hats are mostly one size fits no-one and end up sitting on the bridge of my nose…always wanted a wide brimmed one, and have admired the Trina Turk ones (http://www.trinaturk.com/p/7688/c/270/Shade-Hat.aspx) in cool fabrics so will most definitely be giving this s try.

I have been wanting to make a hat for a while. I was going to use another pattern but this hat has a much nicer shape. How did you make the pattern for the brim though?

I can imagine that the circumference of the head bit is measured and halved to make both pieces then how much you want the brim to extend out measured and another half circle.. if you understand?

But it’s not a full half-circle…. I was wondering if there was some kind of logic behind the curve that they got.

Yes, the curve… how did they get that? If you make it a full half-circle, then the brim just sticks straight out.

Burda – please let us know!

I get it.. It’s less because it pulls the sides up and down.. so the circumference of the inner circle would be correct, but the outside isnt perfect so it doesnt stick right out and is forced to curve a little bit giving the floppy sort of effect. Kinda like a reverse ruffle maybe?

I think I’ll make a mock up brim in half-stiff paper to make the pattern, I don’t really get the instructions on the brim either… but it shouldn’t be too hard to invent!

That’s really cool!! Not sure it’d suit me but don’t need much fabric so it’s worth a try! Thanks for the instructional. :):) happiness! Cheeky question: is this early – so there won’t be anything tomorrow :)

I’ll definitely have to give this one a try— I burn so ridiculously easily!

Seems simple enough. Don’t know why I never thought of making hats before… Thanks for the tutorial!
