Using a New Look pattern I made this dress with drapes across the neckline and shoulders. Under this drape are elasticated straps ( great idea ) and rather a nice neckline – so at some point I shall make this again minus the drapes !
Ideal for dancing today as it was so hot !

I took 2 days to make it. The dress had to hang for 2 days before doing the hem — which was VERY uneven and strangely 5cms longer at the left hand side ( the zipper side ) than the front. I had to leave it on the dress form and using a metre stick measure from the floor using the front measurement as my finished length. The right hand side was about 3cms longer than the front. So basically the front of the dress, when made next, needs to be added to as the length is only just adequate to my mind. Yet I couldn’t see any reason for the drop and put it down to poor pattern drafting by the manufacturer, as all the grain lines were adhered to and it was not bias cut. I also was not aware of stretching the side whilst inserting the zip !
