I have used Butterick #P410 1952 dress pattern before, so when I saw the Sugar Skulls fabric I KNEW it would be perfect. As with some projects, I bought the fabric, laid out the pattern and put it aside for a whole year. I had a Rockabilly concert to go to in 2011 and decided to finish the dress. This dress is a bit challenging with the gathered sleeves. I added a band of black fabric to the dress, lined the bodice with a black and white polyester snake print, added in seam pockets with snaps so I didn’t lose my ID and lipstick, and did an exposed zipper in the back. The zipper did not work out as I wanted, but I’m the only one who knew that secret! I had a great time at the concert and can’t wait for the weather to warm up and wear it again.
Cotton Sugar Skulls fabric, polyester snake print lining fabric, black cotton fabric for the waistband, metal zipper and large snaps for pockets.
Take off with pleats, cut-outs, insets, and futuristic prints.
