I’ve always loved ‘Some Like It Hot’ particularily Marilyns coat as they are going to catch the train. When I saw this coat at the op shop i couldn’t resist. The cuffs and collar were extremly mangy but the body was perfect. There was even some lovely embroidery on the back. I took off all the fur and started from scratch. The collar was fun. It’s all free form beading. I used stiff interfacing ( I like my ears warm) so it stands up by itself quite well. I also added the braiding (by hand!- my machine had a fit when i tried to put it through). The buttons were extravigantly priced – for me- at $6 each!
Every time i’ve worn it i’ve had some very complimentary comments. I’m wearing it here at a party last winter (and yes, those are hot pink skinny jeans), some time in July. It’s wonderfully warm, but i do get a bit concerned when it starts to rain!
Faux Monkey fur, satin, interfacing, upholstry braiding, seed beads, metal buttons, time… lots of time
