Burda Style For people who sew

I think I like it? The front panel on this top was tricky and a bit fiddly (and it looks suitably dodgy on the inside). I only had one metre of fabric so the length is a bit unusual. The gathers around the bottom stuck out a lot and looked really funny so I took them in using little pleats at regular intervals to make it a bit tulip shaped around the base. I think it worked and besides I was too lazy to undo seams and take out the gathers. This is the first pattern I have sewed from Japanese pattern book ‘Stylish Dress Book 1’ and found the pattern and illustrations very easy to follow. Cutting and tracing all the pieces took a really long time and you really have to pay attention to the drawings but once it is done the rest is fairly straightforward. I couldn’t find the sleeve pattern so I used the sleeves from dress ‘O’. Have worn it all morning, got lots of lovely unsolicited compliments from people who had no idea I had made it and it felt lovely to wear. Easy, breezy and pretty. Upgraded to a winner!
