My entry for the Style X competition is inspired by Aurora Borealis caused by recent solar flares, as well as the amazing glass sculptures by Dale Chihuly. The structure of the garment consists of a simple asymmetrical princess seamed gown, shin length hem, with a half oval shape cut out of the right side. In this cutout is a very wide piece of bright and flowing chiffon, giving movement to the muse who is captivating her crowd with unwavering intensity. On the surface of this piece are hand stitched strips of gathered chiffon, flowing this way and that, which creates a feeling of a fragile yet vivacious spirit emanating from the wearer like a magnetic force.
The illustration has been set to a background digitally, yet the croqis was all hand drawn with Prismacolor markers!
