Burda Style For people who sew
Description
Inspired by April who does traditional yarn art of the Huichol Indians. I wanted to make a thread applique inspired by her art form. This piece is hand lain silk thread that I collected at the fabric store I use to manage. This was a process I complete 3 times over a 2 week period developing the technique, I developed. From top left to bottom right is the order the frogs were made in. The frog on the bottom right took over 10 hours. Each thread was dipped in a mixture of sulky solvy and water, laid out with tweezers to dry then bonded with bo-nash or misty fuse
Material Notes
dupioni silk threads, bo-nash a salt like form of heat-n-bond, mistyfuse simular to stitch witchery but way way better, Sulky solvy water soluble stabilizer, silk,time, patients

I absolutely love this. You did a beautiful job on the process. I checked out your inspiration, but I like your spin on it better. I especially like the top and middle frogs as they are a bit nebulous and “painterly” looking.

Its hard to photograph silk I might try to enlarge the individual frogs from the set image.

oh my gosh. how incredibly creative and artistic. i love frogs, and i think the one in the middle is my fav. i wish the closeup photos werent so blurry, i wanna see the detail better!!
