Studded Tree Dress

Added Apr 19, 2014

by Danielle Mac...

Brooklyn, New Yo...

I got this great vintage fabric on Ebay. I used a vintage pattern as well. It had a back zipper, but I found the fabric had enough stretch to eliminate it. I felt it needed a little something else so I added some studs on the sleeves. They actually came off a sweater I bought from Forever 21 that started falling apart immediately. The studs themselves actually seem to be of pretty good quality. I sewed and knotted each one on individually so they wouldn’t snap off when the fabric stretched like they did on the sweater. It actually seems to give the dress a little bit of shape and structure when wearing it.

Material Notes

Vintage knit fabric

Garment Type
Blends, Knits/Jersey

Love the fabric and the cut of the dress. The studs definitely make it edgier. Great job.

Is it a jersey knit ? I really like the sillouette , and the studs make it quite edgy .

Yeah it’s a jersey knit but a very nice thick one. They made better fabric then, I love finding a good piece to work with.

Iv yet to delve into sewing with jersey , that’s interesting that you can get a tailored effect with it .

You should, it’s very easy and fun. They have good deals on Ebay. Look for fabric that has a lot of texture on the back side and it’s usually pretty thick.
