Stripy Ruby

This is my second pair of Ruby shorts I’ve made – I’ll upload the original pair soon! The pattern is really quite fantastic. They are relatively simple to make, and alter, and fit me pretty well. I made them a size bigger than I am, which makes them more comfortable to wear. I used an old fabric I had lying around, which I always thought was really ugly. Despite this, I think they turned out really nicely. I hemmed the shorts long, so I can wear them knee-length or roll them up to make short shorts. I ommitted the pocket on the back and instead added two slit pockets. I kept the top button on the waistband but turned the sides into pockets. I wasn’t sure how well this would work, but I think it looks pretty good. I have heaps of fabric left, so any suggestions as to what I can make out of it would be greatly appreciated!

Those turned out soooo cute! I love vertical stripes, and this fabric looks to me like the perfect choice for your shorts. Stripes are classic, and I would echo the good suggestions the gals above have made for using up your surplus fabric. But getting back to your design, I agree with the pocket changes and choices you made, very stylish. Also love your clever hem variations:)

I don’t think the fabric is ugly at all! The shorts are super cute. You could make a vest like the others said, but I can also see it as a jacket, hat, or pants.

Very clever idea with the roll-up hem. You could do a matching Franzi vest :)
