I’ve been dying to make this dress since I saw the new Breakwater Collection. As soon as I saw the collection, this was the stand out star for me. I love the high/low, I love the floatyness, I love the different options for the waistband – I basically love it all! I decided to make it out of the stripey jersey, I wasn’t sure how the stripes would fit the flow and drape of the skirt, but I was interested to find out. I like geometric prints, so thought stripes going in all directions could look really interesting.
I cut out the XS and made option one, which is where the skirt is done up with buttons, not tied. As I was using Jersey I was worried the stretchyness of it might distort the tie/skirt. I was also worried that although my waist is small, my hips are NOT. As this is a wrap skirt I was worried this might mean that it would have more chance of it blowing open to reveal my pants if I stuck to only my waist measurement. However, the way this pattern is printed means that I could follow the lines for the XS waist and the L on the rest of the skirt very easily. Perfect! Following the L style lines also meant I could add a bit of length to the skirt, something I was keen to do as I am a bit of a giant and I don’t want to flash too much thigh by accident.
I’m really happy with it, and can’t wait to get some more material to have another go! The shape of this skirt is divine. I think the back might be my favourite bit. I love how it flows in the wind, It’s dreamy and the vertical stripes look awesome!
