Burda Style For people who sew

This is my attempt at recreating Merita’s travellers bag. I saw bags similar to this in Jack Wills over the past few years, but I could never bring myself to pay the ridiculous price tag they were asking, so decided to make my own instead! I actually made this last august, but have only just remembered to post it!

I made it longer than Merita’s original version, as I have a habit of packing way too many things for a weekend. In hindsight this was perhaps a mistake, cos it’s so heavy to carry now when full. Oh well, I suppose that’ll teach me to pack light (or at least we can hope) :P

It’s fully lined with the same stripy material I used for the outer pockets. You can see in the interior photo that I accidentally sewed one of the lining panels in upside down, oops! (but who’s to know, except me…and all of you now!)

It was all very simple to put together, the only problem I had was that, despite the fact that I had cut the end circles exactly the same size, when it came to attaching them to the rest of the bag, one side has a centimetre gap either side of the zip whilst the other end fits perfectly. Oh well. I would have unpicked it and tried again, but I was in a rush to finish this before setting off on my year abroad. Maybe I’ll get round to finishing off properly when I’m back home…or maybe (and more likely) I’ll just learn to live with it :)
