Striped Summertime Tee

Added Apr 5, 2012

by dixiediy

Austin, Texas, U...

This is a self drafted top and my third version trying to perfect the design. It’s loose fitting because summers in Texas are hot and I hate wearing clothes that cling to my skin. I really like the way the stripes intersect at different angles at the collar and sleeves. The best part, though, is on back! I added a crochet applique (which I bought, I didn’t make) to the upper back for extra interest.

I wrote more in depth about the top on my blog

Material Notes

Rayon jersey, crochet applique

Summer, Spring
Garment Type
Bohemian, Casual

That is a fabulous top! The back was unexpected, it really takes it from a casual tshirt to a top you could dress up with some skinny jeans and heels. Going to give this a try myself, fabulous!

Thank you! I just bought more crochet appliques to try with new designs. Those things are so fun add to an otherwise plain shirt.

What a cool top! It gets hot where I stay, too, I think I might be trying something like this next Summer (if I get it right!). Well done :-)

I really like this top and I think you have drafted it well. My summers are very hot too, so I have been making loose tops to stay cool as well. And it seems so much more comfortable and relaxing.

thanks! I agree, in the heat all I want to wear is something loose to stay cool and not sticky.

This is stellar. I love the loose drape of the top and the use of stripes. I like the idea of the crochet applique, but what if you get too much sun? Interesting sunburn design!! :-)
