Kasia Skirt in horizontal stripes. I love the design of this skirt, the high waist, sailor style buttons and front pockets. I did however encounter a few surprises during construction.
A few notes on the pattern:
The front and back feature gathered inserts (referred to as yokes). The pattern has asterisks to show where to make the gathers but I couldn’t find matching points on the skirt for proper placement. I was also confused by a number of instructions, particularly number 7.
Be aware that the skirt requires a zipper at least 10 inches long. I had expected to a standard 7 inch but the high waist really needs a longer zipper.
The pattern is very, very close fitting. I’m between just barely (1/4 inch) larger than a size 40 so that’s what I cut. I had to let out the side and back seams as far as they’d go to make sure I’d be able to sit comfortably. For safety’s sake, cut larger than you need. However, if you use fabric with a slight stretch it might be a perfect fit. If you plan on making any size adjustments at the center back, I recommend cutting two pieces for the center back waistband. In the pattern, the center back waist is cut on the fold. Add a seam allowance to the folded edge and you’ll be able to adjust the size more easily.

Cool, thanks for the advice. I’m about to start making this skirt – what did you do when you encountered the problems at number 7 with the matching up stuff??? bx

It looks great! I really love the frabic you used! This pattern was my first attempt at fitting something from the waist measurements [my first skirt! ah!] And I’m a 36 on top, but when I measured my waist, woah 34.. It is a very snug fit. I’m rather happy that I used a stretch suit fabric. Whew!

its really beautiful! I also had trouble wiith the pattern instructions, particularly the zipper, becuase the pocket in the front confuses you. But I’m making it now in denim, and I’m expecting that it will look amazing!

Fantastic work, i’m sure you’ll get so much wear out of it! I made this too, have actually made two, i love it so much! Yet to post it though… I agree on the zip, i used one a little short and have to squeeeeze into it. To Peaudane, I’m sure you could make it without gathering the yokes. They’re a great effect though!

I am in the process of starting my Kasia and yours makes me even more excited. I love the fabric and you did a really good job matching the stripes. I think I like your striped magazine rack as much as the skirt. Great job!

This looks fantastic with your choice of fabric! (Judging by the first picture I’m guessing you love stripes!!)
I made this skirt last week, but I used crappy fabric and didn’t like it so will make another, I also found the instructions a bit confusing…but I always think that it’s just me, nice to know someone else found them hard to decipher…..

I love your version. And thanks for all the helpful tips. Do you think it would be possible to do without the gathers in the yokes?
