This dress is a Vougue dress I made back in high school. I love how the pleats were created from sewing-out the white and black squares, making black and gray stripes around the waist and for the sleeves. Cutting this out was a challenge but worth it in the end! Evey check lined up perfectly. The original pattern called for a cut out lace boarder right above the hem line, but I decided to go without.
Cotton black and white gingham check, 1" squares

This is a beautiful dress! Very well done matching the pleats, and making the fabric work so well with the pattern! I’m so jealous :) Someday I need to try working with a plaid.

I’m working on this now! Well, actually it’s in my UFO pile, but all I need to do is hem it and add the buttons. I’m so lazy. Yours looks great! Now I’m motivated to finish mine.

Ok, the first and only time I got a plaid to match was over 10 years ago while helping my Mom do a pleated skirt. I’ve done pleats and checks since then but just didn’t care to match the pattern. Now i’m going to do it again. Your dress is cute.

Really nice. I bet cutting out was a nightmare! It looks fantastic, so well done for persisting!

Thanks! I forgot to mention in the garment description that I cut it out single layer, but I accidentally cut out the back one square up from the front! I ended up being able to fix it, but boy was that frustrating!

It’s lovely. I really like the intuitive use of pleats/plaid, clever. Which pattern number was it, do you remember?

I’ve seen this pattern before and thought it looked cool! I thought it might be a bit TOO retro but I can see now that it is on a real person instead of the envelope illustration that it’s actually very modern. You did such a great job.
