I made the third skirt from the BurdaStyle Sewing Handbook, replacing bias tape along the pocket openings with piping, and ricrac along the hem with pompom trim. I used white ricrac along the waistband, and a white invisible zipper, along with hook-and-eye closure, on the back of the skirt. Other than my own silliness (I put the waistband on backwards so the stripes were reversed from the pattern on the main skirt), the project was simple and the instructions were solid.
I purchased this striped cotton from IKEA. It has a medium weight, so it keeps its shape.
