Added Sep 1, 2010

Tel Aviv, Israel

Here it is, my pride and joy: fully lined, with boning, my first strapless dress. More about it on my blog. I learned a ton making it but for now I think I’ll stick to making simpler things! This dress took hours and hours. But isn’t it pretty? I’m wearing it to my friend’s wedding tonight! Sorry for the bad pictures – taken in the late night hours after finally finishing the dress!

Material Notes

medium/heavy brocade (jacquard) paisley fabric. Satin lining

Spring, Summer, Fall
Garment Type
Classic, Evening Wear
Cotton, Blends

Hi, thanks! The pattern is from the Burda magazine from March 2010. I don’t have the pattern number right now but it appears on the cover of the magazine.

This is a really beautiful special-occasion dress, although I suspect that you could also dress it down for lunch with friends etc. Well worth all the time and effort – it fits you beautifully.

Thanks! I was driving in this dress and could hardly turn around to park in reverse without it moving out of its place… I think it’s more of a special occasion only dress! :-) Also depends on the shoes – the ones I wore were really high-heeled and uncomfortable. An excuse to go shoe shopping! :-)

Thanks! I bought this boning that is like tiny plastic rods that are covered in fabric. So I sewed them directly onto the seam allowances. I can post a picture – it wasn’t hard, just time consuming because I did it by hand. You can also make a shaft for them and then sew the shaft onto the seam allowances but I think that’s even more work…
