Patterned jersey that I bought in Amsterdam, Burdastyle Jersey Dress pattern. I found the pattern very vague so didn’t really follow it, which was mostly fine but I had some troubles with the neckline. I gathered the front pieces between the bust, rather than at the bottom, this seemed to give the right effect. Any advice on how to stop the neckline from being so gapey would be wonderful! Thanks x

I love this dress on you and the fabric is beautiful. When I face a neckline in stretch fabric, I measure the actual neckline edge all the way around. Then I subtract a 1/4 of the measurement off the the actual measurement (eg. if the neckline measured 100cm, I subtract a 1/4 which is 25cm and that leaves 75cm. I then cut my facing to 75cm). With the facing short edges sewn together and long edges folded in half, wrong sides together, I stretch it slightly and pin onto neck edge evenly all the way around. The facing then sits snuggly on the inside once sewn and pressed. For some stretch fabrics you may have to remove more than a 1/4 but that will depend on how stretchy it is. It is all trial and error but once mastered, a quick and easy way to do a neckline.

thanks for this tip. I have also had this problem in the past and not known what to do about it.

I don’t have any additional advice on the neckline, but I do want to say that that dress looks amazing on you!

You did a lovely job!!!!! I have the same issues with the necklines. Ichigogirl posted this in learning:http://www.burdastyle.com/techniques/make-deep-necklines-tighter There are a few other things that may help like clear elastic in neckline will tighten too. Hollow Chest Alteration: http://repository.tamu.edu/bitstream/handle/1969.1/87747/pdf_688.pdf?sequence=1 As you can see some of it is trial & error, once you find the right technique it becomes easier on other sewing patterns. Hope this helps and others have more input, really like the dress!!!
