For this year’s museums at night event Tullie House Museum in Carlisle are holding a steam-punk circus and I’m running a fancy dress life drawing activity. I thought it important to dress the part but as I’ll be running around like a crazy thing I decided I needed something practical so I thought I’d make a steam-punk inspired waistcoat. I’m planning to team it with some lace arm-warmers and possibly some spats to complete the look and I’m hoping for a top hat! I used a pattern from burda style and just made a few alterations; namely removing the tab from the back and inserting velvet loops for lacing instead and changing the front closure to a brooch rather than buttons. I used a thick cotton twill and a pretty bird print then used velvet and satin ribbon for the lace up back.
